How to set up your Robotic Lawn Mower in 5 Easy Steps

Robotic Lawn Mower

So you’ve either purchased a Robotic Lawn Mower or you’re considering purchasing one. There are many things to consider when buying one such as Is my garden big enough? What if it rains? Is it better than a manual mower?  – All of which, the team at Cutting Edge Machinery, Bromsgrove can help you with, but the next thing is How to set up my Robotic Lawn Mower.

Well, help is at hand, Cutting Edge Machinery have put together an FAQ section for Robotic Lawnmowers which covers off a number of questions you may have as well as this easy step by step guide.

1). Clean up your Lawn

Firstly, you must clean up your lawn to minimise the risk of damaging your robotic lawn mower. The grass area needs to be cleared of any twigs, children play equipment, stones or typical objects that would cause damage to your mower. It’s also best, if the grass is longer than say 9cm, you trim it with a manual mower.

2). Charge the Battery

Place the charging station for the mower in the centre of the lawn (with plenty of space around it) – ideally on some nice flat lawn and within easy reach of a powerpoint. The charging period varies from product to product, it can be anything from 1 hour to 2 hours for the initial charging period.

3). Laying the Perimeter Wiring

Now it’s time to set the perimeter. You don’t want your new robotic lawnmower delving into your perfectly manicured borders. The purpose of the perimeter wiring is to set the boundaries of the cutting area of your mower. All you have to do it attach the perimeter wiring to the ground next to the docking station with the kit provided – you can even set up obstacles so the mower knows to avoid them by laying the wire around bushes, scrub or islands.

4). Setting the Guide Wire

Depending on the robotic mower you’ve purchased will determine if you need to set the guidewire. Some have built-in sensors; others you will have to set the guidewire so the mower knows how to return to the docking station. All you have to do is connect one end of the wire to the docking station and perimeter wire.

5). Set your Preferences

You can now set your preferences. Each mower can be programmed for its cutting height, mowing times, anti-theft PIN number to name but a few. You may want your mower to be set to cut whilst you’re out and not at the weekends.

Now it’s time to enjoy your lawn.
